COMM 1000 Lecture 5: Makeup Notes Lecture #5 - Listening and Conversation
Document Summary
A process of receiving, constructing meaning from, and responding to spoken and/or nonverbal messages. Focusing on what we say and our words, how we come across. Do this with expense of our listening. Hearing: being able to hear things, not internalizing. Listening: looking to analyze it, to listen for something. Must recall conversation to be a good communicator. Once we commit to our memory, must figure out what it means. Why did someone say what they said. Make sense of how we feel about the message. We provide feedback to the info we heard. Focus is on info and accuracy of info. Trying to gather info and make sure info is accurate. Trying to make sense of complex info and figure out how we feel regarding the content. Focus isn"t always on specific data of a conversation. Stressed by other things, put up a wall that makes it hard for us to listen.
