Voluntary: choosing to attend a speech (genuine interested) Captive: feeling like the must attend a speech (work harder to get listeners engaged) Audience analysis: figuring out what your audience likes and how they are then using tht to design a strategy to respond to them. Search for commonalities between you and your audience. Use language that appeals to all members (avoid slang and exclusive language) Attend to all segments of your audience (don"t acknowledge different groups separately) Include relevant supporting materials (resonates strongly and or leaves neutral feelings) Don"t purposely express your views in a particular way to get people to like you. Take demographics into account. (way into which our audience or population is divided into groups according to specific characteristics. Use all of this information to understand needs and interests of audience.
