The End of Thomas More/ Tudor reign
- Thomas More was executed. He would not sign the document (act of succession) which would
validate the succession of Henry VIII and her children’s succession.
- He believed Anne Boleyn’s marriage to the king was invalid. He was devoted to his catholic
faith until his death.
- Anne was aligned with the radicals/protestants.
- Edward the VI was Henry VII’s successor after his death. He was son of Jane Seymour and
also affiliated with the protestants and began a religious civil war with catholics; although his
father remained catholic until his death.
- Mary Tudor (AKA bloody Mary), daughter of Henry VIII’s first wife Catherine of Aragon then
became queen Mary I, and brought back priests and restored the catholic faith and continuing the
religious war.
- After Mary’s death, her sister Elizabeth was successor. Religious history is political history in
