Document Summary
A theory is an explanation for what we observe. (our observations). Theories are generated as a way of explaining what we observe. People"s development are in different domains of development. As people grow they develop more moral and ethical values. How to understand the trajectory of individual development over time. Traditional debate revolves around contributions of nature vs nurture essentially meaningless and functionally useless . Mutual influence = influence by others, ex. When a baby of a certain sex is born, people are influenced a certain way. A girl is born and they call her cute and darling. A boy is born and they call him strong. Nature = genetics (a portion of dna that accounts for your genes) ex. hair color, height. Nurture = environment (your family, who you surround yourself with) Bronfenbrenner = developmental psychologist, argues nature vs. nurture is meaningless, they are both important. Genetics and the environment are constantly influencing one another.
