Assumption is that identity work leads to maturity and maturity is necessary to take on adult roles and responsibilities. What is maturity robert white: four clear indicators of maturity. Stabilizing of identity: less experimentation, less anxiety about the identity triangle (career, lifestyle, and values) pretty well articulation of who you are. Freeing from personal relationships: less dependent on peers and family for approval. And disapproval is less likely to control you. Not likely to give others power over them. Deepening of interests: people become focused on things that they are interested in that are worth pursuing and that bring joy into their lives. Expansion of caring: as you become less anxious about yourself, you become more responsive to others. Psychosocial tension/crisis tension revolves around developing a capacity for lifelong intimacy.
