No; very little difference between men and women on average. Overlap is dramatic, so some will always be higher and lower than the. Most sex differences are taught and learned, not biological. Women: caretakers, stay at home mom, helping professions (teacher, nurse, etc), submissive. Gender stereotypes- men: athletic, aggressive, competitive, assertive, independent, strong. Androgynous couples tend to be happier and last longer compared to traditional coiiples. Personality is relatively stable over the life course. Extraversion-natural levels of arousal; low levels of arousal; very calm; draw energy from being around people. Introverts- high level of activity; very little to feel overwhelmed; recharge in solitude. Conscientiousness- work ethic; put in a lot of time and energy. Neuroticism-high anxiety; looking for things to worry about. Openness to experience- how flexible and adaptive you are. Some people bring out the best in us, others the worst. Sociometer theory- assesses the quality of our relationships with others.
