Middle adulthood (40-60) chronological age is not a good indicator of stage of life once you get past early adulthood 40- As you grow older your psychological age is more important to how you experience and structure your life. Psychological age is your outlook on your age. Has to do with health, physiological changes, and how you adapt to them influences your attitude towards how old you are. Much happening psychologically during this time that serve as modifiers toward later trajectory. Stage specific sources of anxiety mid-life polarities (focusing on the works of levinson, sheehy and erikson) Mid-life polarities: tension between developmental forces that generate anxiety. The presence of the anxiety is not necessarily a problem. How you responds to anxiety determines how you develop later on. Polarity one: young versus old realizing that you"re not young, but you"re not old either. Becomes obvious to people in later adulthood.
