With a look on history of the family- Interracial relations have come a long way from the time when it was forbidden, the days of slavery and anti-miscegenation laws. Mixed-race couples used to have to hide their relationships. Slavery pushed marriage away from being a priority. Virginia case of 1967 ended the ban of interracial marriage and opened doors for interracial couples everywhere. Since then there has been a spike in interracial marriages. Well- known names such as president thomas jefferson and senator. And tv shows such as scandal and modern family display strong mixed-raced relationships. Long-term interracial relationships face challenges like those who still discriminate, staring, inappropriate (cid:494)jokes(cid:495) and questions, and stereotypes. An important aspect to remember is that when looking at (cid:498)interracial(cid:499) relationships and marriage it is not just a black and white couple. For example, an asian man and a black woman.
