Document Summary
How were the roles of the state different in great britain vs. the. The industrial revolution in england came into fruition through the textile industry. Since the black plague had wiped out so much of europe"s population, machines were invented to spur productivity (spinning jenny). In addition, while the rest of the continent was practicing the economic system of mercantilism, england practiced laissez-faire; the free-market was not influenced by the government, and instead of relying on trade, it relied on domestic products. Although industrialization was revolutionary, and did a lot of good, there were still many problems that resulted from it. Before industrialization, most of the population worked in rural areas as farmers, but once industrialization occurred, the population of people in the cities quadrupled. The cities were not prepared, and had no sanitation codes, so it resulted in overcrowding and health problems from unsanitary living conditions.
