1. Hitler is welcomed into Italy
a. Mussolini has his battalions line up and sing to show strength and welcome
2. Mother is a very demanding and stern lady
a. Many Children
i. Family for the fascist regime
3. All of family goes to parade except mother
a. Stays home, takes care of house
4. Signore-Neighbor
a. Not happy with his day to day job
i. Helps the Mother save the bird
1. Mom starts second guessing her life
Wife/Mother’s Life Under Fascism
● Gets scared when the doorbell rings
○ Could be squadristi
● Confused when Signore is nice to her
○ Women in Fascism aren't used to men being respectful
● Husband works in charge of visitor service
● Tolerant to fascism
○ Prepares coffee for husband in morning
■ Drinks a lot of it
○ Gets everyone up for school and work
○ Stays home all day
■ Seems very depressed throughout day
● Begins to change as Signore(Gabriele) becomes involved
○ Tries to look nice for him
■ Curls hair
■ Puts on heels
○ Becomes happier when talking to him
■ Happily offers him coffee
■ Won’t let him leave
● Wants to have coffee with him
