Document Summary

Morphemes are classified into certain types according to whether they can stand alone, and according to the position in which they appear within words. Words are composed of morphemes via merge, which creates hierarchical structure within words. This association is pretty arbitrary, which means that you have to memorize this kind of information in your mind. Lexicon - the section of long term memory dedicated to storing information of morphemes. Ex. sound kaet is associated with the animal cat. Words will show up on the screen, you must decide if the word is a real word or not. In order to say yes or no , you need to access the stored word. This means that the task will engage the processes necessary for lexical access. If we measured the amount of time it takes to respond to a word (reaction time), we can use it to make inferences about the processes that occurred during lexical access.
