Caused by deletion of 20 genes on chromosome 7- specific location called 7q11. 23. Eln is the gene responsible for protein elastin(plasticity in human organs) and lmk1. Elastin deficiency leads to narrowing of blood vessels(stenosis) Leads to profound deficit in general intelligence as measured by wais. Will have iq lower than 70 visual -spatial. Both williams syndrome and down syndrome have spatial and intelligence defects, but differ in regards to language. Down syndrome is a duplication of chromosome 21, called trisomy 21.
