Gram stain: gram negative (pink, facultative anaerobe, non- spore forming, doesn"t form capsule, grows optimally at 37 degrees. Agar streak plate: facultative anaerobe, doesn"t form capsule, forms spores and para-crystalline, motile, 1. 0 x 2. 5 microm. Isolated by shigetane ishiwata- causing death of silkworms: first produced in france, produced us in 1958, forms endospores, resistant to heat, drying, and radiation. Incorporating into several major crops, some have the bt toxin gene and resistant to insect infestation.
