Plantation songs combined elements of the parlor song and minstrel song and were meant to be performed for large audiences. An exa mple of a march would be the the stars and stripes forever and an example of the waltz would be after the ball . All presented one after the other without any narrative theme. This laid the foundation for what t he american popular music business is today.
