How did a parlor song differ from a plantation song: parlor songs had a simple piano accompaniment and were meant to be performed at home in the parlor. Plantation songs combined elements of the parlor song and minstrel song and were meant to be performed for large audiences. An exa mple of a march would be the the stars and stripes forever and an example of the waltz would be after the ball . All presented one after the other without any narrative theme. This laid the foundation for what t he american popular music business is today.
