Document Summary
Psych 1100- lecture #6- the biological basis of behavior. Spinal cord carry sensory info to brain via axonal tracts carry motor info from brain via axonal tracts (cut=paralysis) Integrate sensory and motor info has tracts that cannot regenerate controls all skeletal muscles below neck and body senses. Organized in segmental manner (30-32 segments, one pair of spinal nerves for each segment) Coccygeal (0-2)- may or may not have, butt bone each spinal segment controls a single dermatome spinal segments: each controls one dermatome. Gary matter inner core white matter on outside. Dorsal is sensory (dorsal root ganglia) ventral is motor (motor neurons)- contact skeletal muscles, motor neuron disease. Re exes organized within gray matter (knee jerk re ex) Dorsal- ventral top part of crocodile (dorsal n), back side. Ventral- bottom, belly side of croc medial- lateral middle vs. the sides rostral- caudal rostral- the nose, anterior caudal- the tail, posterior.
