Animals occupy different locations and gradually speciate. Rapid speciation due to strong selection pressure of different habitats and rapid adaptation. Uses leaves like a diving board to spring from leaf to leaf. Transplanted to smaller islands with more sparse and thin vegetation. Evolved shorter hind limbs within 10-14 years. Not speciated, but it is the beginning of speciation. Native to dense rainforest but transplanted to more open areas. Transplanted birds have longer wings which were better for aerodynamics. Asian shore crab has invaded southern new england. Mussels evolved thicker shells in 15 years in southern new england. This leads to competition for limited resources. One possible outcome is competitive exclusion (superior survives; others extinct) Other possible outcome is ecological character displacement selection favors individuals of each type that use resources not used by members of the other type. Populations will diverge in phenotype and resource use (possible speciation)
