SPAN 1010 Lecture 2: the wolf
Document Summary
El lobo portrays the issues of political violence between the spanish government and the eta and basque country nationalists as a futile and bloody. As the film progresses more bombs are detonated, innocents killed and fear spread although there is a salient lack of resolution and advances towards common ground. Francoist government further estrange themselves and move further away from an end to the war as the eta continues to terrorize spain and the governments" control is dwindling. The members of the eta come off as unrelenting and naturally, violent. The basque members are fueled by their dedication to the basque country and their patriotism is obvious throughout the entire film. Both sides are driven by what they see as "good" and therefore the line between good and bad is ambiguous seeing as each side is committing acts of violence.
