Race: physical characteristics describing a given group, each of the major divisions of humankind. Ethnicity: distinction based on cultural criteria such as language, national origin, customs, and value. Diversity: the quality or state of having many different forms, types, ideas, etc, the state of having people who are different races who have different cultures in a group or organization. Culture: meaning and experiences shared by a group and communicated across generations. Around us we have a filter; developed based on everything you grew up around and impacted who you are, impacts how you see the world. Oppression occurs when the dominant group (privileged) withholds power and resources from another group (oppressed, subordinate) A positive example from an oppressed group, used to debunk racism. Role of mass media: perpetuate racism and oppression.
