CLASS 130 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Laughter Yoga, Facial Expression, Erving Goffman
Document Summary
A genre of artistic creation with characteristic features. Feature of texts, behaviors, and works of art with humorous intent. Biological response to variety of stimuli including humor. We laugh for different reasons (almost always as a response to amusement/pleasure, maybe even discomfort) Based on the theory that the body becomes happy/relaxed regardless of if the laughter is forced or not. In all our behaviors, we wear a mask. Framing = patterns of behavior permitted in diverse situations in everyday life. In order to communicate, people give themselves cues (very much like actors) Part of it is context, and part of it are the cues we give to each other. People are primed by the framework whether or not to laugh. Primary = serious; our everyday interactions, things we take seriously. Secondary = enactment of a behavior (a show, movie, comedy routine, etc. ) Ex: thinking something is serious, and then seeing that is just enactment and not real.
