EARTH 4 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Stokes Drift, Wind Wave
Document Summary
Search technology (black box is actually orange), hold all the flight information that send out an acoustic single (a ping) so somebody with the right equipment can listen for it. Seep tent constructed over most prolific seeps (iron concrete structure with huge pilings) Natural seep gas collects in this tent and taken onshore. Stokes drift- orbit it slightly smaller at trough than crest that creates a little bit of movement (imperfect circle, slight movement with each wave passing by) Orbits can interact with the bottom, when shallow enough, depth of penetration. Seiches- generate wave but suddenly opening door (pressure released) Propogative/restoring forces (restoring force trying to bring it level and flat) Only ask questions about shallow or deep water waves but know transitional waves have gradual change of shape /speed between the 2 types. Shallow water wave oval shape orbits, less than 1/20 because hitting the bottom.
