There are certain parts specialized to recognized faces. Counter arguments - maybe face processing is not special Faces are just activating certain circuits in the brain that are used to process super complex objects with emotional meaning. Not efficient to have specific neural representation of recognizing just one kind of object. Verbal language may have developed out of facial expressions as a way to communicate. This is a pattern we see in facial communication. We tend to recognize faces even when they"re not there.
