Japan especially seen as a threat, first time non-european country defeated a european country in the modern era. Model minority stereotype emerged when 2nd, 3rd, 4th asians spoke fluent. English & became high-achieving/climbing up the economic ladder. Used as political point to refute affirmative action and other welfare programs. Uses success of some to ignore the struggles other asians and other minorities, including vietnamese, cambodian, hmong refugees. Asians are thought not to make trouble: timid, hard-working, not assertive. Seen as worker drones that would work through the night and expect nothing.
