Document Summary

Filters through glomerulus and exits through the renal vein: renal medulla, has straight tubes. Some tubes are draining into the renal pelvis which drains into the ureter: renal cortex. Inside of which most of the filtration takes place. Structure and function of the nephron: glomerulus, high pressure filtration capillary. Found in bowman"s capsule: portal system, artery that feeds into glomerulus capillary bed, forms a second cap. Bed around the proximal tubule, loop of henle, and distal tubule: peritubular cap. Surrounds proximal and distal tubule: vasa recta cap. So much glucose, that the transporters are saturated and some gets peed out. Last stop reabsorption/secretion of salt, water, ions, bicarbonate, protons: aldosterone. Increases na+/k+ pump activity, increase na+ channels, so when more na+ is flowing in, water flows in. Increasing bp: collecting duct, only reabsorbs water when adh is present, diabetes insipidus.
