COGS 14A Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Stratified Sampling, Criterion Validity, Cluster Sampling
Document Summary
Cogs 14a lecture 25: surveys and interviews continued 3/15/17. Can be self-administered, or personally administered- continuum of influence the more you are present, the more someone can see how you are interacting, more possibility to let the interviewer affect the survey taker. Want to maximize response rate, validity, and reliability. Ordinal scale with anchors on the ends [likert- type: categorical response questions. Use equal, mutually exclusive, and exhaustive categories. Validity and reliability: validity: are we measuring what we intend to measure, face validity: this simply asks if the measurement tool seems plausible at face value. Use different measurement tools for some construct and see if the tools maintain a high correlation. Does esteem reflect a real psychological construct and does our survey measure it: criterion validity. Examine how well the test correlates with important behavioral outcomes, this is related to external validity.
