Virgil directly asks us what we feel about dido. Wants us to put herself in her position. Makes us share her protest which is certainly justified. He acts like he moves in and stays there. Suddenly leaves without telling his feelings (sneaks out) Everyone looks to aeneas for leadership (the refugees) Aeneas feels he is living a life he is not choosing. His mom is a goddess on a completely ther plane. His father died in book 3 and feels alone. He is compared to a stony mountain that is immovable.
