HUM 2 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Aeneid, Hum Network Limited, Institute For Operations Research And The Management Sciences
Document Summary
Course will focus on biographies which represent lives and true characters as opposed to actions and accomplishments. Use biographies to interpret views of the author. The three essays will all have the same prompt regarding the persuasiveness of the text. Biography is an argument about why the biographer"s judgement of the subject"s character is correct. In antiquity, you are who you are and you stay that way from the beginning of your life until the end. It is possible to infer character from physical features (this is called physiognomy) The shape of the soul can affect the shape of the body. The body is malleable, the soul does the molding. For instance, a lion is someone with bright eyes, wavy and flowing hair, who is brave and heroic. On the other hand, a panther is depicted as greasy, badly proportioned, thin and dark hair, sneaky, not reliable.
