Document Summary

We are now in a machiavellian world where power must be met with power. Anti-machiavellian character: hotspur, a rebel of a different sort, has no clear understanding of how the political world has changed. The ability to conceal is one of the top machiavellian values, opposite of hotspur, what he feels he utters, cannot be the machiavellian fox, incapable of recognizing that others may be deceitful. Hotspur has no interest in personal power, for him it is about honor. He is neither the fox nor the lion. He is one of the only players in this civil war who does not deceive, he is what he appears to be, the only consistently honest major character and only one who enjoys a happy marriage. He is easily manipulated because of his political naivet and his honesty/ gullibility. Sad commentary on the state of modern politics. Hotspur is impulsive, loyal to his family, dependable, all about honor and chivalry.
