• In Western culture, names for distinct eras of social life dominated by particular
ideas and trends of thought.
❖ Social Life (factors below are intertwined in complex ways)
• Economic structures and the labor market
• Flows of Power, structures of control
• Arts ad Media (art, music, theatre, dance, literature, television, film,
architecture, etc.)
• Philosophy, popular opinion, beliefs
• Lifestyles, aspirations, etc.
• Not driven by a top down authority but bottom up through complicated
interactions of these factors
