Document Summary

Learning : process of acquiring new info or behavior through experience. Association: pairing one thing with other (can be both classical and operant) Consequences: we know not to touch a hot stove even if the flame is off (operant conditioning) Acquisition: learning via info that is provided to us (cognitive learning) Study behavior without referencing to mental processes (cognitive part of psych) most psychologists agree with 1 but not 2. Classical conditioning : type of learning in which one learns to link two or more stimuli and anticipate events. Basic thing: taking a neutral stimulus, that does nothing to us and pairing it with an unconditioned response which is a natural reflex. Unconditioned response: unlearned, natural response to unconditioned stimulus. Salivating on hearing the bell even on absence of food. Theoretical goal of science of psych is prediction and control of behavior. Just because u learn a behavior doesn"t mean u learn it for life.
