Document Summary
Gestation: period of time between conception and birth. Human nervous system begins to form at 2 weeks gestation. Neural plate neural tube cns. Brain is something that grows really fast in comparison to a body. Mother nature wants to get brain moving. Proliferation: mitosis (division) of neural stem cells in ventricular zone of neural tube. Migration: new cells migrate outwardly towards the cortical surface (along radial glia) Differentiation: cells differentiate into different neuronal types and axons and dendrites formed. Myelination: begins in the spinal cord, then hindbrain, midbrain and forebrain. Nature ( innate ) pre-programmed (genetic) not affected by experienced. Nurture shaped by environment and experience. Pre-natal development nature because it cannot be modified by sensory experience. Identical twins (mz) have dna that is more similar. Dz (fraternal) twins does not have as much dna in common. In different range but must not be in different scales.
