PSYC 154 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Oatmeal, Task Analysis
Document Summary
Chaining- process of stacking contingencies on top of each other to create a series of behaviors. Ex) dancing (sequence of steps, applause at end) Steps not individually reinforced, but come together to create behavior that is reinforced upon completion. May need to reinforced after each step when first learning chain. Important to pre-define where chain ends and begins (arbitrary sometimes) Behavioral chain- a complex behavior consisting of many component behaviors that occur together in a sequence. Chain begins with sd1 which elicits an r1 (specific song comes on which makes you begin to dance), followed by multiple sds and rs, final r leads to sr (reinforcer/reinforcing stimulus) Each response creates stimulus situation (sd) for the next response. Task analysis- process of identifying all stimuli (sds) and responses (rs) in a behavioral chain. Sds for dancing would be cues/changes within the song. Need to identify all subcomponent behaviors and then determine what their sd is.
