PSYC 155 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Face Validity, Externalizing Disorders, Dementia
Document Summary
Potential for suicide or other dangerous behavior, based on risk factor identification: treatment planning- what therapies/treatments should we use, treatment outcome- after starting treatment, reevaluate to see if it is working. Assessment analogous to a funnel- start very broad when person first comes in, then narrow down to get a clear idea of their problems. Psychometrics- methods of assessment; includes reliability, validity, and standardization (cornerstones of measurement: reliability- measure of consistency, predictable. Get same score on multiple trials, and multiple people get same conclusion using same method of assessment: validity- degree to which technique measures what it is supposed to measure. Measure can be reliable but not valid, but valid measures must be reliable. Classic test theory- score given every assessment device is a combination of construct (measurement) and error. Always some degree of error- no perfect measure. Goal is to minimize error so that you get a more accurate measure of behavior.
