Most common attempts to control moods involves getting out of bad moods. Misregulation : attempt to eliminate anger or bad mood ineffectively (ex. Standards : some people believe they should never consciously attempt to control their emotions. Belief that it is psychologically damaging to alter emotions. Any attempt to control emotions is damaging to your psyche. Emotional expressivity effect: what actors use to get into character, fake it to make it. Emotional expressivity effect : when one expresses the emotion, one is likely to experience that emotion. Seen in domestic violence, one partner vents and the other responds in an angry fashion. Responses (venting is ineffective at decreasing or eliminating mood state) Venting doesn"t work in general bc it just prolongs your bad mood state. Silent seething: refraining from expressing one"s again produces harmful effects. Stay angry, doesn"t solve any problems, hold it in. Really destructive vs you are staying angry.
