Parasomnia- undesired disturbances during sleep oarousal disorders- sleep walking osleep transition disorders- occurs during stage change, includes orem disorders- nightmares, rem behavior disorder oother- bed wetting, teeth grinding sleep talking. Medical/psychiatric disorders not specifically related to sleep (pain, schizophrenia, depression) Have longer day for traveling west, so easier for clock to adjust since it is already slightly longer than 24 hours ocoping with jet lag. Attend to circadian and homeostatic sleep drive. Homeostatic- stay awake at least 16 hours to build up sleep drive. Morning- don"t sleep late, eat breakfast on time, exercise, bright light, noise. Evening- go to bed at the new local time, quiet and cool room, relaxing activity before bed, melatonin (particularly for going east) Shift work- working at night or on rotations ocreates serious problems with circadian synchronization like jet lag (dyssomnia), but has more long term problems.
