Document Summary

Causal schemas: preconception or theories built up from experience about how certain kinds of causes interact to produce certain effects, our expectations (schemas) influence what we process. Attributions: historical overview, heider"s explanation, the reasons/explanations we give or inferences that we draw about the causes of events, others" behaviors and our own behavior. Fritz heider: trained in gestalt psychology (whole is more than the sum of its parts) Interested in how we perceive other people and infer the causes of their behavior. Our lives are fundamentally social lives and creating a coherent narrative increases our sense of predictability of what"s going to happen in the future and our sense of control over our lives. If we link behaviors/events to staple factors (personality), it increases the simplicity of prediction as we navigate our world; in doing so, we tend to overestimate personality and underestimate the situation.
