Document Summary

Qualitative: focused on the quality of a phenomenon. Neither is better, it depends on the nature of the topic and the type of question you are asking. Leads you to choosing one or the other method. Cross-sectional advantages: easy to carry out, snapshot in time . Does not let us answer questions about the true cause. Longitudinal advantages: able to follow the dynamics of a phenomenon over time. > able to answer questions about the true cause of a phenomenon. Harder to do bc you have to follow the same subjects over time, it"s costly, and it takes time to get answers. Micro vs macro levels of analysis (scales) Macro analysis: larger entities where individuals are nested. Traits that are measurable and whose values vary across the population. Variables are traits that do not stay consistent throughout the study. Often times, we can find a third variable z that affects x and y.
