Document Summary
Culture: ritual, law, social controls (gossip, ostracism ) Social construct: media, specifically movies and tv. Personal: mate selection, lovers and spouses, reproduction vs. mating. In many ways, love and mate choice are interconnected, but love and best mate choices can be mutually exclusive. Sex selection has played a role in human evolutionary pattern. Sex selection is the process by which we choose with whom to reproduce, and thus, with whom we recombine our genes for the next generation. This is a form of natural selection in which the choice involved health and environmental survivability. Mate choice includes sex selection, but also includes perceptions of survivability that may or may not be accurate, and culturally specific preferences. If you"ve never experienced love, it"s hard to love your children. Genie lived 10 years of her life chained to a potty chair. After intensive therapy, she finally told researchers that she even slept there. But her parents never bothered to potty train her.
