Sensory receptors: highly specialized, respond to changes. Internal and external: respond by generating electrochemical messages, is a stimulus is strong enough, then the action potential is conducted to the brain. Pain: respond to one form of energy. Phenomenon whereby sensory receptors stop responding when continuously stimulated: varies around sensory. Sense goes to the brain and detects thing such as light and dark touch in skin cells: pressure in skin cells. Nerve endings even on arm hair free nerve endings found in tissues of the body. Damaged tissue releases chemicals that alert free nerve endings pain referred pain felt somewhere other than the site of the injury. Common with damage to internal organs: body position temperature, eye farsightedness. Only in females when both parents have the genes. Vibration of an object that causes pressure waves in the air. Ear drum vibrating very slowly: high. Outer ear: functions as a receiver, includes the pinna and external auditory canal.
