Sleep prevents colds or sleeping more than 8 hours a night will prevent colds. Prediction- if my hypothesis is correct, then this is what i expect. Relates to the hypothesis but encourages you to think of the next step. Sleep study- control how much people sleep during the night. Observing, ask questions, proposing ideas, testing, discarding/modifying those that fail. Attempts to explain observations (perhaps from discovery science) Wider and broad, supported over and over. Observations: people would take an antiacid, but then it would come back. So they think it was linked to bacteria. Barry marshall believed in his theory enough so he ate the bacteria. He didn"t get an ulcer but it drew attention. Believed to cause more than 90%of duodenal ulcers and up to 80% of gastric ulcers. Germ theory- microorganisms too small to be seen from the naked eye can cause disease. Increasing the amount of protein in a cow"s diet increases her milk yield.
