Document Summary

Nucleic acids a strand of dna or rna. Gene specific segment of dna that contributes to a function. Genomes: 4 requirements of genetic material. Cells replicate genetic material endergonic dehydration. One cell divides into 2 cells: cell checkpoints. G0 susbstitute for g1 for cells postponing division or never dividing again. Takes something extra to get out of g0: cell cycle regulation. 3 critical checkpoints in eukaryotes: g1, g2, metaphase. Cyclins (protein) regulated by gene expression: bind to cyclin dependent kinase (cdks, phosphorylates proteins that drive through check point, external signals increase amounts, check point proteins. Sensors that determine if the cell is in proper condition to divide. Cell cycle will be delayed until problem is fixed or prevents division entirely. Cyclins or cdks responsible for advancing a cell through the phases of cell cycle. Kinases controlling cell must bind to a cyclin to be active: dna damage checkpoints.
