Stomata: regulate gas exchange and water/nutrient uptake: close: conserve water, open: increase rate of transpiration. Process: blue light atpase pump h+ out. Abscisic hormone (aba): cascade event, prompts calcium to enter the cell and ions to leave the cell, water goes out as well. Transport of organic compounds: source tissue (production, sink tissue (storage, no photosynthesis) Pressure flow hypothesis: leaves (source) = site of photosynthesis, fruits, roots, etc (sink) = any growing tissue, source cell companion cell (helps support phloem) phloem. When leaves are still absent, flowers and lateral buds are sink tissues: processes are reversed and it is the only time when nutrients also travel through the xylem. Muscle movement: repeated binding of myosin heads pull actin filaments toward the middle region of the sarcomere, myosin: binds to the actin filament to help muscles contract (2 heavy chains and 4 light chains) Head domain contains: catalytic atpase activity site. Actin binding site: skeletal muscle function.
