Document Summary

Was a reducing environment is now an oxidizing environment. Evolution is the theory that organisms and animals adapt to their environment in physical ways. Natural selection is a cause of adaptive evolution. Individuals with certain traits leave more offspring than others. Evolution- a change in allele or genotype frequency in a population over time. Gene flow- movement/exchange of genes from another population. Natural selection-usually (but not always) acts to reduce genetic variability. Non-random mating- individuals can select their own mate, and this is not random with respect to genes. Genetic drift- random fluctuations in allele frequency. A species is a group of organisms who share common characteristics that reproduce with one another and have viable offspring. A group of interbreeding populations whose members can produce viable, fertile offspring that are reproductively isolated from other groups. Evolutionary independent lineages defined by size, shape, other morphological features. Theory- distinguishing features are more liekly to arise is populations are isolated from gene flow.
