Document Summary
Human beings have need to expand" their own life force and life meaning beyond themselves; this needs to be beyond one"s immediate self is the heroic drive. Life force & life meaning one without the other is empty. The person who shrinks from the expansion of their life force, who pulls back from embodying heroism, lives the life of the wasteland. " just going through the motions of life. The human drive toward heroism is manifest in two paradoxical needs. One need deals with the extent to which people are driven to merge with a group, community, or a purpose larger than one"s self (agape) belonging. We need to feel like we are connected to something greater than ourselves. To live without meeting this need is to live in alienation from other people, to feel cut off, isolated and abandoned. People meet this need through corporations, teams, churches, etc.
