Tools of science (cont. : construct: concepts combined for a specific situation. Remarriage and couples are both concepts which are combined in this case: operational definition: behaviors and procedures to measure a concept. You can count the number of times someone cries in a day and use this to determine how often they are sad: variables: phenomenon that is measurable and can change. People can have blue, green, brown, hazel, etc. eyes. Mass communication: social science: a study of humans which utilizes the scientific method. Difficult because human behavior is hard to measure. Individuals" self-perceptions and goals may change, and therefore so will their ideas and actions. Causation: something that impacts/influences your thoughts or actions may not impact/influence someone else: how theories of mc differ. Ontology: study of existence/reality and what is knowable. Epistemology: how knowledge is created and expanded. Axiology: the role of values in research and the formation of theories.
