Son of zeus and princess semele of thebes. Hera tricks semele to ask zeus to reveal himself to her which kills semele so zeus brings her unborn child out and sews it into his thigh. Dionysus who sprung from zeus"s thigh (which is seen as a errotic era to greeks) automatically became a god of pleasures. Dionysus comes as a baby, zeus asks hermes to take the child and take care of him. Hermes takes him to semele"s sister who disquise him as a girl; hera comes to kill the parents in some stories. Dionysus taken to mountain nymphs after by hermes. Dionysus teaches a greek farmer how to distill grape juice. Seen as a mature man with a beard, with long curly loose hair, soemtiems with a leapord skin draped around his neck; sometimes also in very femine clothings; ivy in his hair and surrounded by ivy and plants.
