Stop and frisk police stop, question and frisk people they deem suspicious, usually with zero evident that they"ve committed a crime. Officers initiate stops to seize guns and drugs, rather than waiting for crimes. Traffic stop clear violation of the law, issue a ticket and go. Allows an officer to stop you on the street, demand for identification, and check it against the database for outstanding traffic warrants even when doing nothing wrong. Fourth amendment protects people from unreasonable search and seizures and an officer breaks the law when he detains you to fish for further evidence of your wrong doing. Outstanding warrants are extremely common, and do not indicate unlawful behavior/crime in community. People of color are disproportionately impacted by these stops.
