Don"t want women to be apart of the public sphere (government and work) Want women to be a part of the private sphere (the family) Able to raise children who are good students and people. Young, unmarried woman paid half of a married man. It sucked, but at least it was a career for women. Will not drink, buy cigarettes, be in carriage with any other man other than brother/father, no dress more than 2 in. above ankles. Most schools didn"t want a married teacher. School was a special place for female teachers and students. Women had higher grades, higher graduation rates.
