Living in rural areas/places far from access, women, people with any different learning styles (if you weren"t doing well, you were lazy) Grammar schools: college prep; not super common. Academies: charge tuition; most students wouldn"t go to college after. Young women tutored in dancing, music and/or foreign language if wealthy. Apprentice: learning by doing; 12-14 yrs; the father and master would agree to certain terms. The master was much like a father. Learning outside school (many people educated, but very little schooled: learning from the family. Go beyond the basics of reading by borrowing books and learning on your own. A form of learning by constant reading of the bible~learning by listening. Puritan families: families with 6 or more children. Typical to lose at least one child in the family. Once you surpassed 5 yrs, you had a pretty good chance of survival: patriarchy. Family is like a government in which the man is in charge.
