The seventies: moral panics, the shopping mall high school, catholic schools. In late 1960"s there is violence in the country. Assassinations of martin luther king and bobby kennedy. Students seizing buildings: at cornell, protests over the scarcity of black studies in college students took over building for a week with guns. Played out over many campuses: not just signing petitions or discussing in class, but taking charge and having violent protests, the 1970"s violence ended quickly. Order and calm settles over: on most campuses, most administrators are more lenient. Many women went to college so they wanted to use their knowledge. People worried about daycare if mother went to work. a. iii. Cheap weed. (by 1975 only 10% of teens are smoking pot on a daily basis) a. iv. Morally wrong to sleep together before marriage. a. v. More and more high schoolers working after school. Want jobs to have money and get their own things.
