“Politics and the English Language”
Audience: people who are concerned with the state of language and politics
Thesis: written english is full of bad habits that can be fixed if you care enough to be
cautious when writing
Examples: increases credibility, proof from political writings
Most relevant today?-meaningless words
Twitter: trump uses it to routinely communicate with public
We also use it to criticize him
Not necessarily long+drawn out like orwell says-140 characters
Passive voice: deflect attention away from people who did the action
Ex: “the tax was passed by the administration..”
Adjectives: ways to appear neutral, but adjectives have either negative or positive
connotations
Socialism also has negative connotation-bernie
If you don’t resist these bad habits of language, understanding and thinking of reality
change
You’ll fall trap to the manipulation in writing-robot
